Who I Am
Written by Dhruv Gupta, Grade 7

I am from hours outside with neighbors
Countless basketball games being played
From Giannis, Curry, and LeBron
Footballs being thrown from hand to hand
Throwing, jumping, catching
The celebrations of a good win
The letdown of a hard loss
Buzzer beaters, highlight-reel catches
I am from the soft rubber of basketballs and the rough leather of footballs,
I am from the water of the pool
From the different swimming strokes
I am from the hikes and the bike rides
From the long trails and the short ones too
From the Warriors and 49ers, from my family in Fremont, Austin, and Atlanta
The celebrations and competitions, the get-togethers
I am from the house on the hill overlooking the city
From the giant lemon tree, and the not so giant orange tree
From my soft bed which I don’t want to get out of in the mornings
I am from the birds chirping outside
From the tunes of The Script and AJR
I am from the music being drummed downstairs
I am from being the VP, student stores
And spirit days
From the 7 years at Pinewood
I am from Subway, obviously the best fast food restaurant ever
From the trips to many different places
Europe, India, Texas
I am from Halloween, Christmas, and many more
I am from the spices and hot sauces
From the bread and veggies
From the mango smoothies and the curries
I am from the rice and the beans
I am Dhruv
