To the Pinewood Community
Dear Pinewood community,
We find ourselves on the brink of an unprecedented school year. Any other year, it would be unthinkable not to be on campus, walking down the familiar hallways or across the too-green turf. I know you all must miss our fliers and posters reminding you to submit your art and writing, our competition prompts staring at you from against a bathroom mirror. We certainly miss you all as well. These past few months have been exceedingly strange and difficult: no physical contact, no hallway conversations, no club meetings or group lunches. How can we stay connected when we barely see each other, when we can’t always be together?
Though this may seem a bit foreign and frankly archaic, such a form of communication exists! From the distant centuries to the recent past, the letter has remained steadfast in bringing people together even when other modes of communication have failed. Whether to someone across the world or to a house-bound community of students and faculty, it can encourage the kinds of connections that we so desperately need.
So this is our letter to you, Pinewood. Though we can’t pass each other in the halls or laugh at each other’s jokes, that doesn’t mean that we have to lose each other entirely. We want to hear from you, now and always. Tabula Rasa, Pinewood’s award-winning literary and arts magazine, was formed in 2016 with the goal of reflecting the voices and ideas of the entire Pinewood community. Now more than ever, this rings true. Tell us your stories and your dreams. Show us your paintings and your photographs. Because even if we can’t see each other all the time, we can still know and support each other.
From,
The Tabula Rasa Team
