Over the River

James Chang
“Over the River” is the first piece to include him in a large drawing. The premise of this drawing is that he is going through the jungle, documenting scenery and plant life as evidenced by the camera on his shoulder. Here, he is jumping over a river as the bridge is actively being destroyed by falling boulders. The main parts of the drawing, the character’s action, his expressions, and the plant life, all evoke certain emotions. The character’s actions, especially portrayed by the after images of his leap, are meant to have the viewer on the edge of their seats for lack of better words. Furthermore, his expression in the afterimages is meant to display his focus on getting across safely, further pushing the tense tone of the drawing. Finally, the foliage is meant to be similar to a jungle, exotic and new, to emphasize adventure.
