An Unfortunate Happening

Makena Matula

Here I stood
Head up high
Feet on the ground
On top of a mountain
Above the world
Wind in my hair
And I reached up to touch the sun.
And it was unfortunate
That balance happened to fail me
And I tumbled down
Down the mountain
Bashing into rocks
Flung off a cliff
And came crashing down to Earth.
So here I lie
Dead on the grass
With shattered bones
And broken dreams.
